Part: II Experience (Architectural Assistant)


Following on from my Part I experience, and having built such a good relationship with my directors at Seed Architects, it only felt natural to rejoin & to be apart of their journey in transitioning from small to a medium size practice. Initially our small team predominately focused on the Rail industry, but as our reputation grew we attracted a more diverse clientele, which allowed us to expand into more residential, commercial, educational and cultural sectors.

My time here has allowed me to get hands on experience on how to grow a practice, engage with high profile figures and become a leader within a team.


Below are a selection of some the projects I have worked on, with a brief outline of the project, my role and reposbilities :

SALFORD CENTRAL REJUVENATION PROJECT : RIBA Stages 2, 3 & 4 (project ongoing)

SEED had come highly recommended to lead the design rejuvenation of Salford Central Station and was instructed to produce multiple costed design options. Working with Mott MacDonalds, TFGM, Northern Rail and Network Rail.

Role: Lead Design 

  • Project manage

  • Liaise with multiple disciplinaries

  • Multiple Team collaboration

  • Detail design

Responsibilities:

  • On site visits

  • Attend high profile meetings

  • Develop and Produce design options

  • Produce high end visuals

  • Cost analysis 

This project is also likely to be my Part III Case Study, due to the wide range of input, collaboration an problem solving experienced right throughout the project.

Role: Lead Design 

Responsibilities:

  • On site visits with council members and other architecture practices involved

  • Design and develop multiple rejuvenation options

  • Produce design options selection reports

  • Produce high end visuals

  • Attended high profile meetings

  • Liaise with community stake holders

  • Collaborate with the other architectural practices involved

  • Produce information for the QS provide a cost analysis report 

Earlestown Masterplan/ Earlestown Station Rejuvenation : RIBA Stages 2 and 3 (ongoing)

Seed had been invited to take part in the rejuvenation scheme for Earlestown town centre, working with multiple architectural practices and local community stake holders. Primary we had been tasked with focusing on the station, and its immediate contexts and how it links into the wider community.

ST ALBANS STAtION New passenger footbridge : RIBA Stages 2,3 & 4 (project complete)

Working with HPBW Engineers, we had been tasked with creating a modern look to an already Network Rail approved structure produced by HPBW. Our role was to clad the entire structure, whilst ensuring as much prefabrication can be achieved before delivery to site and undisruptive maintenance can be carried out thought-out its life cycle

Role: Lead Design 

  • Detail design

  • Liaise with engineers

Responsibilities:

  • Design & develop cladding system 

  • Attended meetings

Peterborough station new waiting rooms: RIBA Stage 2

This was quick feasibility scheme I was brought on to, and was tasked to design a modern cladding system and interior fit out from an existing floor plan layout produced by my college.

Role: Design & Visual specialist

Responsibilities:

  • Design exterior cladding system

  • Produce high-end visuals for internal fit out

Al Jamiatul Islamiyah Boarding school large extension: RIBA Stages 1 and 2 (Awaiting funding)

The school had been growing rapidly and the board was looking increase its facilities. SEED had been tasked with generating a design feasibility scheme, encompassing 16 new class room and additional dining hall. The proposal was gratefully received and is awaiting funding approval.

Role: Lead Design 

Responsibilities:

  • Produce a feasibility report

  • Design and develop an exertion that was in-keeping with the exiting schools characteristics

  • Produce high end visuals
